Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Grüner Veltliner

The Bath Magazine - Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Gruner Veltliner

From the world’s leading carbon-neutral winery, Yealands Estate Gruner Veltliner 2014 is an elegant, spicy delight – dry, yet fruity, with hints of peach, ginger and citrus, I love its zestiness, and seductive scents – this is a great wine to partner with aromatic, spicy Asian dishes, and copes particularly well with creamy Thai curries.

An attractive Kiwi sauvignon from the increasingly impressive Yealands Estate, this is highly aromatic with flavours of green pepper, elderflower and passionfruit. It’s pure, pretty, crisp and delicious.

This is such an impressive Gibbston Pinot, showing fresh, meaty, dense, spicy red cherry and berry fruit, with real freshness and a silky texture. It’s just so beautiful, with lots of aromatic interest and real palate presence. 95/100

There’s a real beauty to this wine. It’s fresh, juicy and elegant with nice grainy structure under the sweet red and black cherry fruit. They key here is the mouthfeel: it’s so rounded and elegant and pure. 95/100

This clever white blend of Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Riesling is a heavenly creation with a kaleidoscopic aroma and ever-changing palate.  Dreamy with the Moules marinière recipe in this week’s Weekend Magazine, this is a truly arresting white wine.

One of the finest estates at the recent, annual New Zealand tasting, Yealands manages to nail the tricky Grüner Veltliner grape with aplomb.  The pineapple husk and green apple fruit is thrilling.

As well as the wine on the left (Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Grüner Veltliner), Yealands makes NZ’s most famous white grape in a more invigorating way than all of the big boys and it’s only a tenner. This is a wine of the highest grade.

Citrus peel, chalky notes and underlying floral and herb hints. The medium-bodied palate gives tons of flavor, with quite steely and mineral characteristics accentuated by the very frisky acid in the long finish. 90 Points.

Made by winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington, this is a pungent style of Pinot Gris with notes of apricot and quince on the nose. The palate is elegant and fresh, with flavours of watermelon and a pinch of ginger spice.

This is a superb example of Kiwi pinot noir with elegant red-cherry and plum fruit notes. There's generous flavour here, but with precision and balance.

Delicate notes of white blossoms and green apples with hints of wet pebbles and coriander seed. Pretty and elegant on the palate, it has approachable acidity and mineral flavors on the long finish. 91 Points.
